Fail, Learn, Repeat: The Real Glow-Up Formula

Let’s stop pretending every journey is a highlight reel. Growth happens when we accept the mess-ups and keep going

Wow, is Boston Windy City now? I am literally shivering while typing this…

Happy Sunday!!!

Embarrassing story time (honestly, I don’t even find it embarrassing)

I used to fail a lot back in school. Not because I wasn’t smart or didn’t have what it takes, but because I just wasn’t there. My heart wasn’t in it, and I was never trying to achieve those high scores like some of my friends. I was more into building blocks, reading, or getting fully into whatever PlayStation game I could find (total love, honestly).

So, being in friend groups where most people were thriving academically, I was usually the one “not fitting in” because I wasn’t driven by scores. But I learned something early on from all those failures—I never saw myself as “the best” or “incapable.” Instead, I thought, “I’m still learning. I can always learn how. I can always learn more.”

Today, even with all the content I create, I never assume I know it all. Not even close! And that mentality—of being okay with not knowing everything right away—has shown up in pretty much every area of my life. But, of course, there are still days when I’m hit with that familiar feeling: “I can’t do this!

That’s the real test, isn’t it? Life throws situations at us that make us question if we’re capable. Here’s how I’ve learned to face it head-on:

Hold on, give me one second…

Thank you, thank you! Back to the point…

  1. Focus on Small Wins: Big goals feel impossible until you break them down. Small wins teach you that progress is happening, even if it doesn’t look huge yet. It’s like rewiring your brain to keep moving, even if it’s just 1% forward each day.

  2. Reframe Failures as Learning Moments: Failure doesn’t define your ability; it’s just data telling you what to tweak next time. When something doesn’t work out, I try to ask myself, “Okay, what can I learn here?”

  3. Build Resilience through Setbacks: With every stumble, I’ve learned to get up again. It’s this resilience that strengthens our ability to try new things and to keep going when things get tough.

  4. Surround Yourself with the Right People: Growth doesn’t happen in isolation. Being around people who push you, who challenge you, and who support you even when you mess up is essential.

  5. Practice Self-Compassion: Growth isn’t about beating yourself up or always pushing harder. Sometimes, it’s about being okay with where you are and knowing that progress will come as long as you keep showing up.

In the end, growth isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about accepting the journey, showing up for yourself, and trusting that each little step is leading somewhere meaningful :)

If you’re navigating similar struggles, know that you’re not alone. Remember, progress is progress and every small win counts. :))

CHALLENGE TIME!!

This week, I challenge you to take one small action toward something you want to improve. Think of a goal that feels big or a skill you want to build, and break it down into a single, manageable step you can do today.

Here are a few ideas:

  1. If you’re learning a new skill: Spend just 15 minutes practicing it today. Focus on one tiny part—don’t worry about getting it all right. Just make a start.

  2. If you’re working toward a big goal: Write down the very first, smallest step you can take to move toward it, and then do it. Tiny steps lead to huge momentum over time :)

  3. If you’re struggling with self-doubt: Reframe one negative thought with “I’m still learning” or “I can figure this out.” When you catch yourself saying, “I can’t do this,” try instead: “I’m learning how to do this.”

The key is to celebrate that small win—give yourself credit for showing up and starting. Each small win rewires your brain and builds that growth mindset, one step at a time :)

So, are you in? Let me know what small win you’re working on this week—I’d love to hear about it!

Happy Sunday and here’s to a productive and balanced week ahead!

Until Thursday,
